Pantech Breeze II (AT&T)

The Pantech Breeze II is an easy-to-use, inexpensive AT&T phone with some good Internet features. Its intelligently designed menu system is far easier to understand than most phones', which will please basic users. Unlike many more "advanced" phones, it doesn't require AT&T's onerous $20 messaging plan, either. If Breeze owners want to upgrade their skills, they'll find a decent Web browser and useful messaging software on board, making this a great pick for a cheap AT&T phone.

OK, now we're talking. The first Garmin-Asus smartphone ($299.99-549.99, ) wasn't even really a smartphone; it was a good navigation device wrapped in one of the worst cell phones I've ever tested. Fortunately, the joint venture's second attempt, the T-Mobile Garminfone, is a huge improvement. It's the best choice for drivers looking to replace a high-end PND and a current T-Mobile cell phone; just remember that navigation comes first, and the Garminfone isn't quite cutting-edge in other areas.

The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is boring, in a really good way. This smartphone is about the basics: clear voice calls, easy text messaging, sharp pictures, and strong battery life. If you want a solid, reliable phone to keep you in touch worldwide, the Bold will serve you well.
