A bit bulky and a bit late, the BlackBerry 8230 Pearl Flip solves a problem that didn't need solving at all. It was sensible for RIM to think that people like flip phones and people like BlackBerries, so a flip BlackBerry would be a winner. But in the nine months since it was announced, slab-style smart phones and full-QWERTY texting phones have been so relentlessly successful, it's clear there's no need for this slightly awkward design.
